Kim Tours offers various options for hiking – ranging from day hikes up to 5 days at this beautiful and still mostly undiscovered paradise. The Usambara Mountains are a combination of 2000m tall ridges and forests located in the north east of Tanzania about 6 hours from Dar Es Salaam on the way to Kilimanjaro. The area is divided in two main parts: The Usambara Mountains and East-Usambara. Both areas are shaped very differently. While the Usambara Mountains mostly consist of hills and steep ridges, East-Usambara offers lakes, lots of waterfalls and tropical rainforests.
The area is a true paradise for hikers who want to enjoy the serene surroundings and the tranquil hiking paths away from the crowds that visit Mt. Kilimanjaro. The Usambara Mountains are part of the Northern Safari Circuit in Tanzania. It is also right next to Mkomazi National Park which makes it an ideal area for a combination of hiking, leisure and safari.
Usambara Mountains are among the most biodiversity regions in the world. Covered by a thick canopy of tropical forest, the mountains offer terrain and wildlife uncommon throughout the rest of Africa. We will pick you up in Dar Es Salaam 6-8hrs, Moshi 6 hrs or Arusha 8 hrs to Mombo then Lushoto.

DAY 1
DAR / ARUSHA / MOSHI TO LUSHOTO (6-8HRS DRIVE).
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
A Camping/Hotel/Lodge/Tented Camp in Lushoto
In the early morning at 7:00 am depart from Dar or Arusha or Moshi to Lushoto West Usambara where you will arrive in the early afternoon for lunch. Afternoon walk or drive to Irente viewpoint and Irente Farm. The farmers produce many types of fruits and vegetables. Dinner & overnight at your chosen camping / hotel / lodge: Full Board.
DAY 2
LUSHOTO-MAGAMBA FOREST MALINDI VILLAGE (4-6HRS WALKING).
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
A Camping/Hotel/Lodge/Tented Camp in Lushoto
Breakfast followed by walking to the Magamba rainforest, visit an old stanch dug by the German during World War 1, the guide will provide an explanation of German and British Colonial history. Proceed on walking through the rainforest of Magamba via Lukozi village to Malindi village. Meals and overnight at your chosen camping / hotel / lodge: Full board.
DAY 3
MALINDI VILLAGE-RANGWI VILLAGE ( 4-6 HRS WALKING).
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
A Camping/Hotel/Lodge/Tented Camp in Lushoto
Breakfast, then walk along valleys and sloping hillsides of the inner Usambara Mountain passing by the vegetable farms lined with eucalyptus and banana trees. You will pass thru the villages of Makose and Kagulio, proceed to Rangwi. From here you can see Kilimanjaro on a clear day, Tsavo National Parkin Kenya, Mkomazi National Park, Pare Mountains, lakes Ndungu and Kihurio. Meals and overnight at your chosen camping / hotel / lodge: Full board.
DAY 4
RANGWI-MTAE VILLAGE (4-5HRS WALKING).
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
A Camping/Hotel/Lodge/Tented Camp in Lushoto
After breakfast walk to Mtae via Sunga village and thru Shengayu forest, on the way you will see Mamboleo village, these villages are well known for their soil conservation and traditional irrigation project which concentrate on the development of stone and bench terraces to improve farming, thorough explanation by your guide on how the people of Shambaa tribe living in the area do keep their surrounding environment, Meals and overnight.
DAY 5
USAMBARA - DAR / MOSHI / ARUSHA (6-8HRS DRIVE).
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT

Today after breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to Usambara National Reserve. We will check out in Usambara and start driving back to your place and we will drop you in your location either Dar Es Salaam or Moshi or Arusha.

The Tour Price Includes
- Bottled mineral water in the vehicle while on safari.
- Pick up and drop off at Kilimanjaro (JRO) or Arusha Airport or Dar es salaam Airport.
- Accommodation and meals per the itinerary (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner).
- Lunch and dinner on day 1, breakfast, lunch and dinner on day 2-4 and breakfast and lunch on day 5 of your trip.
- If you choose a camping safari: camping gear like tents, camping mattresses, pillows, camping chairs, etc.
- Game drives and all park entry fees 18% VAT on tour fees and service which cost nearly 100% of the total cost.
- Transport in a safari vehicle from your hotel in Dar/Moshi/Arusha to the destination and back (other pick-up points possible, please contact us for the right price)
- Ground transportation in a 7 setter or 6 setter Safari vehicle with English Speaking Driver guide
- Accommodation of your choice: from budget camping to staying in luxurious lodges. In case of hotels/lodge/tented Camps, we can arrange it for you (the prices mentioned above are for overnight stays in Camping - Standard hotel/lodge/tented camps according to the program, other prices are applicable for the other accommodation options).
The Tour Price Excludes
- Meals not listed above. eg Breakfast on the first day and dinner on the last
- Tanzania Visa cost which is 50% except for Canadian and USA passport holders which is US$100.
- Mountain gears + Sleeping bag (can be rented, please ask us at the time of the booking).
- International and Domestic Flights and departure taxes (Quoted separately where applicable)
- Optional activities and excursions (short safari/tour after your Safari can be arranged upon request at an extra cost).
- Tips for the crew. We recommend a tip of 25 USD per day for your guide, and 15 USD per day for your cook, to be divided between each member of your group.
- Inoculations and personal insurance (e.g. Tanzania Visa, Travel, Medical and Baggage insurance, A doctor for the group, Laundry, Souvenirs, Telephone, Beverages (available to purchase) and all other services that are not mentioned as included.
- Holiday Surcharge : A supplement of US $ 40.00 per person per day will apply to all bookings on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 31 December and 1st January
- A supplement of US $ 35.00 per person will apply to all bookings between Friday 3rd and Monday 6th April (for all 4 days) as Easter holiday surcharge.
